Weekly Round Up
The Pack Report: New Faces & Weekly Vibes
New Pack Members:
Buddy Bear the Havanese has joined the Zoomies Pack!
Weekly Highlights:
Louie had a playdate with his two favorite Zoomies Team Members this week and everyone had a blast!
Buddy Bear is iffy around new people and gets triggered by other dogs, as well as runners and “tall men in hats.” His first walk was short as he tested out his walker and finally dug in his heels. His second walk was much more successful, a real leg-stretch lasting just over a mile!
Business Updates:
We’ve officially hit our one-year milestone of serving Montgomery County! Zoomies has grown so much thanks to your trust and your amazing pups. To keep things running smoothly, we’ve recently streamlined our backend with a new business EIN and professional banking—boring “adulting” stuff for us, but it means more reliable, professional service for you!
Sniffs & News: This Week's Top Stories
Local Alert: Montgomery County Shelter at “Critical Capacity”
Our local Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC) reached a critical limit this week, taking in nearly 30 large dogs in just a few days. If you’ve been thinking about fostering or know someone looking for a “big sibling” for their current pup, now is a vital time to help. Even sharing their posts on social media makes a difference!
Health Watch: Salmonella Recall on Chicken Treats
The FDA has issued a voluntary recall for a specific lot of “chicken-chip” style dog treats sold in several states due to potential Salmonella risk. While no illnesses have been reported yet, it’s a good weekend to check your pantry for lot #24045 with an April 2027 expiration date. Remember to always wash your hands after handling any dry treats!
Safety Check: The “PETSAFE” Act Introduced
New legislation called the PETSAFE Act was recently introduced in Congress. It aims to make it easier for state and local governments to access emergency funds for pet-friendly sheltering and evacuations during natural disasters. It’s a great reminder to double-check your own “Go-Bag” for your pets as we head into spring storm season.
Groomer's Tip: The Post-Walk Paw Wipe
Since we’re moving out of winter, your pup’s paws are dealing with a “cocktail” of leftover sidewalk salt, spring mud, and early pollen. Keep a container of pet-safe wipes (or a damp microfiber towel) by the door. Wiping down the pads and between the toes after every walk prevents “pododermatitis” (inflammation of the skin) and stops your pup from licking irritating chemicals or allergens off their feet. Plus, it keeps your carpets much cleaner!
